Celtic held onto defender Jozo Simunovic amid interest from Torino last summer but they face a battle to do so again this coming transfer window.

Newcastle United are one of the sides showing interest, according to the Daily Mail, with manager Rafa Benitez determined.

Newcastle are a club Celtic should consider doing business with, because they have some intriguing assets of their own.

Here are three Newcastle players who Celtic should consider swapping…

Grant Hanley

Tough tackling centre-back Grant Hanley has had a frustrating time at Newcastle after his summer move from Blackburn Rovers.

He appears certain to be sold this summer after failing to play regularly, and could be an ideal and replacement for Simunovic.

The Scotland international was in Rangers’ academy before signing for Blackburn at just 16, but this wouldn’t necessarily rule him out of contention.

Ivan Toney

Striker Ivan Toney has struggled to make the breakthrough at Newcastle, being sent out on loan in successive seasons.

He is at Scunthorpe at present where he has scored goals to help them into the play-offs, having helped Barnsley win promotion from League One last season.

Toney faces an even tougher chance of breaking through next season and the 21-year-old could flourish at Celtic.

Adam Armstrong

Adam Armstrong is another striker who couldn’t break into Newcastle’s Championship side, making his Premier League hopes even tougher.

He scored prolifically for Coventry City last season and has contributed well for Barnsley this year in the Championship.

Celtic should consider bringing him in to back up Moussa Dembele, and could make Newcastle regret letting him go.
