They have been away from Newcastle United this season but could they come back and prove their worth?

Following their relegation from the Premier League in 2016 there was an overhaul of the Newcastle United squad, one which saw several players sent out on-loan.

However, now that the club have bounced back to the top flight at the first time of asking, manager Rafael Benitez will already be looking to the 2017/18 season and how his team will look back in the top tier.

Incoming transfers will be a priority, but here are three Magpies players who have been on-loan in 2016/17 that could be a ready-made addition to the first team.

Siem de Jong

De Jong’s time at St James Park was tricky from the off following a 2014 move from Ajax, with several serious injuries curtailing his playing time.

The following year they went down and the 27-year-old was sent back to the Netherlands and PSV Eindhoven, where he has since done well and the Dutchman has already stated he wants to come back to Newcastle and prove his worth.

Another Netherlands international who left Tyneside for the Eredivisie following relegation, Krul has actually struggled during loan spells at Ajax and now AZ Alkmaar, but has done more to prove himself in England in the past.

Since the 2010/11 season the goalkeeper has been a regular for the Magpies and has made 185 appearances for the club to date. Not only that but Krul has also outlined his intentions to come back this summer and fight for his place.

A little bit more of a controversial choice here and unfortunately for the Toon another player they have on-loan to Ligue 1 – Florian Thauvin, who has scored 15 goals this term – has already agreed a £10m switch to Marseille.

Saivet, meanwhile, has been with Saint-Etienne and although his form has been mixed, the Senegal international has shown glimpses of his potential which could be realised if Benitez opts to give the midfielder another chance in England.
