The NBA trade deadline is set for February, but there’s a chance some big names could be on the move well before then.

Last year’s deadline was one of the busiest in recent memory, and this season might not be much different. Player movement could pick up again as teams look to reshape their rosters.

Contenders will be searching for an impact player to boost their title hopes, while struggling teams may decide to start preparing for the 2026 Draft class by selling off valuable pieces.

Let’s take a look at three NBA stars who could find themselves on new teams this season.

Lauri Markkanen

The Utah Jazz aren’t expected to make the playoffs this season, and forward Lauri Markkanen is one of the most valuable assets on the roster.

The Finnish forward is in the first year of a four-year, $195.8 million contract, so any team acquiring him would be taking on a significant long-term commitment.

Despite the hefty salary, Markkanen could be a key piece for a team looking to build towards immediate contention.

Anthony Davis

The Dallas Mavericks are expected to focus on building around Cooper Flagg following the departure of general manager Nico Harrison.

Davis still has two years left on his deal, including a hefty $62.8 million player option for 2027-28.

Dallas should be looking to acquire draft picks and expiring contracts in any deal for Davis, prioritising financial flexibility to better build around Flagg moving forward.

Ja Morant

Ja Morant has voiced his frustration with the Memphis Grizzlies’ coaching staff, even serving a one-game suspension after publicly criticising head coach Tuomas Iisalo.

He’s currently out with a right calf injury and won’t be re-evaluated until early December. With the Grizzlies struggling in a loaded Western Conference, Morant could quickly become one of the league’s top trade targets.

While there are questions about his attitude, his talent is undeniable, and teams looking to make a title push may take the risk. Meanwhile, Memphis might be heading toward a full rebuild after moving Desmond Bane in the offseason.
