The former Manchester United prospect has dropped out of Everton’s first-team, but he remains a hard-working player.
Cleverley would add dynamism to Sunderland’s midfield, and he could thrive in a new environment.
Marouane Fellaini (Manchester United)
Fellaini may not be of the requisite quality to represent Manchester United, but he would be a useful addition for Sunderland.
The Belgian midfielder is capable of playing in either defensive or attacking midfield, and he has linked up with Black Cats boss David Moyes before.
Fellaini could be made available in January, and it would not be at all surprising to see Sunderland make a move for the Belgian.
Will Hughes (Derby County)
If Sunderland are prepared to invest in a young English talent, then Will Hughes could be an ideal addition.
Hughes has a great amount of first-team experience for someone so young, and his technical ability is of Premier League quality.
Derby would likely demand a big fee for the England youth international, but he would be an exciting signing for the Black Cats, if they could pull it off.
