The former Middlesbrough boss has been linked with a move to Leeds United.

Despite achieving promotion with Middlesbrough, Aitor Karanka finds himself looking for a new club this summer. The Spanish manager, who arrived at the Riverside in 2013 after spending time as Jose Mourinho’s assistant at Real Madrid, lost his job in March 2017, with Boro struggling for goals and points in the top flight.
However, after Garry Monk’s recent departure from Leeds United, the Spaniard has been linked with a potential move back into management at Elland Road. According to a report in Yorkshire Post, Monk and Aitor Karanka may well be swapping clubs, with the former Boro man keen to takeover at Leeds.

With this in mind, HITC Sport have taken a look at three of Karanka’s former players at Middlesbrough who he could well look to sign for Leeds United, should he take charge. The Spaniard will likely be keen to mould Monk’s Leeds squad to his playing style, and it could be a busy summer at Elland Road should they appoint the former Boro man.
Grant Leadbitter

One of Middlesbrough’s longest serving players; Grant Leadbitter has been a warrior at the heart of Boro’s midfield over the years. The defensive midfielder could add some steeliness to Leeds United’s centre, as well as some leadership on the field. He could also act as a great mentor for the immensely talented Ronaldo Vieira, who plays the same position. Leadbitter would offer quality both on and off the field for Leeds.
Cristhian Stuani

The Uruguayan striker has been excellent for Boro since arriving from Espanyol in 2015. The striker scored 11 goals for Boro in the Championship, and followed that up with another five goals this season in the Premier League. After the signings of Rudy Gestede and Patrick Bamford, Stuani’s first team chances have become more limited, and Karanka may well look to snap up the striker from his former club should he go to Leeds.
Adam Forshaw

The battling central-midfielder was a favourite of Aitor Karanka’s during his time at Middlesbrough, after signing the youngster from Wigan Athletic in 2015. After winning the League One Player of the Year award in 2014 with Brentford, Adam Forshaw’s stock has risen and risen, and Leeds United would be benefited hugely if they can persuade the 25-year-old to depart the Riverside. Making 25 appearances in the Premier League this season, Adam Forshaw would add real quality to this Leeds United side.
