Taking a closer look at some of Manchester United’s most talented prospects.
Manchester United have a number of exciting teenagers coming through the ranks right now but only a few will ultimately become first-team regulars.
United boss Jose Mourinho is not known for giving youth a chance, however here are three players tipped to follow the likes of Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard in time for the 2020 season.
Angel Gomes
The jewel in United’s academy crown, 16-year-old Angel Gomes is tipped for superstardom at Old Trafford.
Predominantly an attacking midfielder who can also operate on either wing if required, Gomes is an England under-17 international who, if he fulfils his potential, could be one of United’s greatest ever academy products.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah
Dutch defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah looked to have broken through under former United manager Louis van Gaal but he has slipped down the pecking order since Mourinho took charge, featuring only seven times in all competitions this season.
That said, the 19-year-old has everything in his locker to ensure he is playing week in, week out by 2020.
Axel Tuanzebe
United have a lot of defenders on their books but by the time 2020 rolls around do not be surprised if Axel Tuanzebe has made a starting spot his own.
The tall centre-back has been tipped for great things by Mourinho and in three years he will be 22 and surely a shoo-in for regular football if he continues his current trajectory.
