Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing the Middlesbrough ace.
According to the Daily Mail, the Citizens are preparing an offer for Boro defender Ben Gibson, with Pep Guardiola keen on bringing the centre-back to the Etihad before the transfer window closes at the end of this month.
Whilst Garry Monk will surely be desperate to retain the services of the 24-year-old, it might be difficult for a club like Middlesbrough to spurn the advances of City, what with their financial muscle.
There is a way in which the Teessiders could benefit by sanctioning Gibson’s exit to Manchester, however – by demanding some of Guardiola’s players in return.
Here are three potential options that Boro and Monk should consider:
Jason Denayer during his loan spell with Sunderland
Jason Denayer:
The 22-year-old Belgian is likely to struggle for game-time at the Etihad again this season, and a move away from the club might be just what he needs to spark life into his flagging career.
Standing at just over 6ft tall, Denayer is strong in the air, but he is also incredibly quick along the ground, and would be a fantastic like-for-like replacement for Gibson.

Patrick Roberts:
The talented winger would be a superb addition to Monk’s squad, and his quality would undoubtedly take them to another level.
The 20-year-old impressed during his loan spell with Celtic last season, and despite his tender years, he already has plenty of experience in playing at the highest level.
The former Fulham man is in high demand, but the exciting project underway at the Riverside could tempt him into swapping Manchester for Teesside.
Wilfried Bony:
The Ivorian would be a sensational signing for Boro, and despite the wealth of attacking talent already on display at the Riverside, Bony could take Monk’s men to even higher levels.
The 28-year-old is strong, and has all of the attributes needed to be a success in the Championship…whether Middlesbrough can convince him into moving to Teesside though remains to be seen.
