Three Luke Dowling linked players West Brom could target in the January transfer window

The new West Bromwich Albion employee may have his eye on the following Crystal Palace, Watford and Sheffield Wednesday players.

West Bromwich Albion have appointed Luke Dowling as sporting and technical director, with an emphasis on recruitment. Dowling, who worked for Premier League clubs Crystal Palace and Watford before dropping into the Championship with Nottingham Forest earlier this year, boasts an extensive list of contacts.

But which players linked to the new West Brom employee could emerge as January targets? HITC Sport takes a look below…

Kiko Femenia (Watford)

Formerly on the books of both Real Madrid and Barcelona, Femenia moved to Watford shortly before Dowling’s 2017 exit and played regularly last season. He’s had to make do with back-up role of late however, and could be open to a winter move. West Brom were desperate for a right-back in the summer transfer window, and while they later offered a deal do Tyrone Mears, the veteran free agent, it is due to expire in January.

Fernando Forestieri (Sheffield Wednesday)

Promoted during Dowling’s first season at Watford, Forestieri was sold to Sheffield Wednesday the next and finished top scorer in each of his first two Hillsborough campaigns. Injury caused the Argentine to miss most of last term, but he’s scored seven goals in 15 games since his return – not enough, mind, to nail down a place in Sheffield Wednesday’s starting XI. West Brom aren’t exactly short in Forestieri’s position (anywhere between the lines of midfield and attack), although Leicester have a recall option on Harvey Barnes and Wes Hoolahan’s deal is also up in the New Year.

Connor Wickham (Crystal Palace)

Signed during Dowling’s time as a consultant at Leeds United, Wickham is currently on the comeback trail after a lengthy spell out injured at Crystal Palace. A January loan move could be ideal for the striker who has scored or assisted 30 goals in 87 games at Championship level. And it would come as little surprise to see West Brom emerge among the takers.
