Brendan Rodgers is a big fan of the word ‘outstanding,’ so here are three Liverpool stars who shone in key statistical areas against the Gunners.

Adam Lallana

Adam Lallana, the £25 million summer signing from Southampton, is finally being given more first-team opportunities by Liverpool boss Rodgers and is duly taking the opportunity to show his manager just why he was wrong to leave him out so often.

As Opta stats show, Lallana created more chances than anyone against Arsenal, although skipper Steven Gerrard made four, so too Lazar Markovic, who had an encouraging game – despite perhaps being wasteful in front of goal.

Philippe Coutinho

Lallana also did well in terms of his tackling, an area Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho shone. The fact that the duo won more tackles than any other Liverpool player against the Gunners showed just how much they contributed at Anfield.

Both diminutive midfielders are hardly known for their steel in the challenge but those reputations were cast aside on Sunday. Lucas Leiva and Mamadou Sakho also won a high number of tackles, as well as Gerrard.

Raheem Sterling

Finally, Raheem Sterling impressed against Arsenal in terms of his dribbling on the ball. The Liverpool star caused real problems when running at Arsene Wenger’s back four – a trait he displays most weeks – and won more dribbles than any other Reds player.

Again, though, Markovic impressed in this area, too, as the only other Liverpool forward to beat his man more than once.
