It’s rather uninspiring that Liverpool’s leading light this season has been a holding midfielder but, in Lucas Leiva, the Reds have a reliable defensive mid.
Lucas isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and is very limited going forward yet, this term, the Brazilian has led by example and been steady while many around him have faltered.
Mamadou Sakho
While Dejan Lovren has once again looked poor and Martin Skrtel sometimes shaky, Mamadou Sakho has often taken control of the Liverpool back four this campaign.
The strong Frenchman may well be the Anfield outfit’s best defender and, just like with Joe Gomez, Jurgen Klopp will rue his luck that Sakho is currently out injured.
Danny Ings
More bad injury luck on Merseyside: of Liverpool’s attacking players, Danny Ings had looked the most accomplished… until his ACL injury.
While Christian Benteke has so far been hit and miss, Daniel Sturridge mostly injured and Divock Origi mostly miss, Ings made a real impression during the last days of Brendan Rodgers.
And he looked like he could continue doing so under Klopp – until his injury.
