Liverpool have been linked with a move for Jamaal Lascelles.

Liverpool were this week linked with a big money move for Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles.

The Sunderland Echo report the Reds have sent scouts to watch the centre-back in recent weeks, who has impressed as captain for Rafa Benitez’s side.

Newcastle would be extremely reluctant to cash in on the former Nottingham Forest defender, but there are three players Liverpool could throw in to sweeten the blow.

Tiago Ilori

Former Portugal under-21 international Tiago Ilori needs a move and playing under Benitez at Newcastle could be the perfect tonic.

Ilori has spent most of his season with Liverpool’s under-23 side, and his decision to join the Reds in 2013 is looking like a mistake at this point.

At Newcastle he could rebuild his reputation, by starting off in the Championship featuring in the Premier League next year.

Sheyi Ojo

Liverpool might not let Ojo leave permananently but a loan deal could be negotiable for Newcastle.

The 19-year-old has Championship experience with Wolves and Wigan already, and featured for the first team earlier this season, recording three assists.

In recent weeks he has been with the under-23 side where he has scored five times in his last seven games, and the chance to play regularly for Newcastle could be just what the winger needs.

Joe Gomez

England under-21 international Gomez was establishing himself as a regular in the first team at Liverpool last season before suffering a serious injury.

He is back to fitness and playing for Liverpool’s under-23 side, but needs to get back to playing regularly.

Newcastle could provide a chance for the former Charlton teenager to get back on track by striking a loan deal, and put themselves in a smart position to sign him long term, should Jurgen Klopp decide he doesn’t fancy him, with Gomez’s starts coming under previous boss Brendan Rodgers.
