The Austrian has encouraged links between himself and Arsenal.

A report in the Sun this week named RB Leipzig boss Ralph Hasenhuttl as a potential candidate to succeed Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.

Somewhat refreshingly, the Austrian was encouraging of the link when questioned by reporters on Friday, as reported by ESPN.

“It was a well-researched story” Hasenhuttl said. “There was a lot of truth to it.

“I have heard of worse fates than succeeding the longest-serving manager in England. It’s not damaging my reputation, is it?”

Hasenhuttl, who previously took Ingolstadt from the bottom of Germany’s second tier to the Bundesliga for the first time in the club’s history, is currently top of the league with Leipzig, who are also top flight newcomers – although he cannot claim the credit for last season’s promotion, having only been appointed in May.

The 49-year-old’s young side are shining in their new surroundings and some could even make Arsenal players one day.

Here are three that the Gunners’ fans would love at the Emirates:

Naby Keita

Listed as an Arsenal target earlier this year, the former Salzburg midfielder has scored four goals from eight starts this season. Still only 21, Keita could be the goalscoring midfielder to fill the boots of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere, whose long-term futures are uncertain.

Emil Forsberg

The Swedish attacking midfielder, who helped the club to promotion last season, has not been fazed at all by the step up a division, scoring five goals from his eight starts. Quick, skilful and strong with both feet, Forsberg could be Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil successor should the German ever depart. Alternatively, they could cause a heck of a lot of damage playing beside one another.

Timo Werner

In terms of playing style, Werner is arguably Germany’s answer to Jamie Vardy – a player Arsenal failed to sign in the summer. Although the Gunners filled that void with Lucas Perez, the Leipzig man – who arrived from Stuttgart in June and has scored seven goals already – is eight years the Spaniard’s junior, and is sure to be of use in future.
