Three Leeds players that could suffer after Christiansen sacking

Leeds have decided to sack manager Thomas Christiansen.

Leeds United have announced on their official website that they have decided to end Thomas Christiansen’s reign as manager at Elland Road – and a number of senior players will be quaking in their boots over their game time.

Winless in seven, losing five of those including a 2-1 FA Cup loss to League Two side Newport County, and four red cards in their last five games – it has all fallen apart for the Spanish boss.

Now, a handful of players that were considered mainstays under Christiansen will be worried their place in the team is under threat when a new manager is announced at Elland Road. Here are three players at the top of that list:

Pierre-Michel Lasogga

It has been a difficult season for the target man, and although he has shown in glimpses what he is capable of – such as a superb double against Millwall – his form has simply lacked consistency.

His pedigree suggested so much more. Christiansen gave the German every chance, but now the 26-year-old could find himself banished from the first team when a less forgiving manager takes to the helm at Elland Road.

Ezgjan Alioski

An alarming stat from Christiansen’s reign is his trust in summer signing Alioski. The Macedonia international has started 28 of Leeds’ 30 Championship outings – but has scored just five goals with four coming in a row during November.

Other than that, the 25-year-old has struggled for consistency in England. His determination is undoubted, but his quality and actual influence in the final third should be. A new manager will surely drop the former FC Lugano left-footer.

Liam Cooper

Leeds have a worrying lack of centre-backs at the moment. The injury to Conor Shaughnessy has been compounded by Gaetano Berardi and Cooper’s red cards. Club captain, Cooper’s excellent 2017-18 start is beginning to diminish.

His recent form has been summed up by his red card against Millwall, and with all centre-backs fit, surely the new Leeds boss would consider Matthew Pennington and Pontus Jansson as first choice.
