HITC Sport have taken a look at three La Liga targets Newcastle United could pursue this summer.
Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez
After an excellent season in the Championship, Newcastle United look all set to bounce straight back to the Premier League at the first time of asking. After managing to keep manager Rafa Benitez at the club, the Magpies have surprised nobody in climbing straight to the top of the Championship.
With next season on their minds, Newcastle United are likely to already be drawing together lists of potential summer transfer targets, and with Rafa Benitez’s knowledge of La Liga to be taken into consideration, the Magpies could well use La Liga as a pool for targets once the season ends.
With this in mind, HITC Sport has taken a look at three potential La Liga targets which Rafa Benitez might want to be keeping his eye on other the next few months.
1. Iago Aspas – Celta Vigo
Iago Aspas (L)
The former Liverpool striker has been in fine form for Celta Vigo, scoring 21 goals in 38 games for the La Liga side this season. Playing mostly as a striker and at times as a winger, Aspas had a lot to prove when returning to Spain after an unsuccessful spell with the Reds. However, he certainly seems to have done that, and could well be a good target for the Magpies in the summer.
2. Kevin Gameiro – Atletico Madrid
Kevin Gameiro – Atletico Madrid
The former Paris Saint-Germain striker would cost a fair bit, but if Newcastle United could bring him to the club they should certainly try. The striker hasn’t always got a fair look in at Madrid, often forced behind Fernando Torres and Antoine Greizmann in the pecking order under Diego Simeone. However, a record of 7 goals in 14 appearances this season has shown that he will score goals when given the chance, and could add some real quality to this Newcastle United side, should they get promoted.
3. Daniel Parejo – Valencia
Daniel Parejo – Valencia
The star of one of Rafa Benitez’s former clubs, Daniel Parejo has been a top performer for Valencia for a number of years. Able to fulfil most roles in the centre of midfield, Daniel Parejo is a great technician on the ball, and can also do a job defensively when called upon. A versatile player, Parejo could offer a lot to Newcastle United in the Premier League, and at the age of 27, the midfielder would bring a lot of experience to this side.
