West Ham United co-chairman David Sullivan has commented on the club’s January transfer plans.
West Ham United co-chairman David Sullivan has told Sky Sports that he is hoping to bring in three new signings in January – and hopes to let three players leave as well.
The Hammers were busy over the summer transfer window, as they swooped to sign a total of 13 players; Alvaro Arbeloa, Arthur Masuaku, Havard Nordtveit, Edimilson Fernandes, Andre Ayew, Sofiane Feghouli, Gokhan Tore, Domingos Quina, Simone Zaza, Jonathan Calleri, Ashley Fletcher and Toni Martinez, as well as landing Manuel Lanzini on a permanent basis.

However, very few of those signings have made an impact this season, with loanees Tore, Calleri and Zaza already at risk of being let go during the upcoming January transfer window.
With West Ham sitting in 13th place, it’s been a disappointing start to the campaign for Slaven Bilic’s men, and changes are needed in January if West Ham are to replicate last season’s seventh-placed finish.

Players are already being linked with moves to the London Stadium, as the Daily Mail report that the Hammers are lining up Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe and Brentford goalscorer Scott Hogan to solve their goalscoring problems, whilst they also report that West Ham have enquired about Chelsea quartet Asmir Begovic, Cesc Fabregas, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Michy Batshuayi.
Ahead of the January transfer window, Hammers co-chairman David Sullivan has spoken to Sky Sports about the club’s plans in terms of both bringing players in and letting players go next month.
Sullivan suggested that West Ham are hoping to let three players leave, with three players coming in, but did note that the Hammers may end up doing no business at all in what is a notoriously difficult transfer window to navigate.
“There is no expectation about what we might do, only hope,” said Sullivan. “Maybe three players out and three players in, but that is only the hope. In reality, your hopes don’t always come true, and we could end up doing no business at all,” he added.
It’s unclear whether loanees Tore, Calleri and Zaza will be counted as the three leaving, or whether contracted players like Adrian or Arbeloa could be departing, but manager Bilic certainly needs help next month after a tough start to the campaign.
