The Argentine hinted he could leave Goodison Park

Ramiro Funes Mori’s revelation that he could leave Everton if he continues to be overlooked (La Nacion) won’t overly concern many Toffees supporters.

With Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams’ establishing themselves as Ronald Koeman’s first choice centre-half pairing, Funes Mori is somewhat expendable, providing the Merseyside club can land themselves some adequate cover.

The following three players could do the trick:

Stefan de Vrij

The Dutchman has helped Lazio to fourth in this season’s Serie A standings with one of the division’s best defences. He previously played under Koeman at Feyenoord and although a new contract containing a possible £30 million buy-out clause has been mentioned in the Italian press this week, that shouldn’t worry cash-rich Everton too much. At 24 years of age, De Vrij could be a solid investment.

Frederik Sorensen

The Dane has been one of the Bundesliga’s standout performers this season, with fourth-placed FC Koln one of the division’s surprise packages so far. Previously on the books of Juventus, Sorensen, also 24, has Steve Walsh bargain written all over him.

Lewis Dunk

With Premier League prices through the roof at present, perhaps Everton could find better value in the Championship. There are few better defenders than Dunk at that level – as WhoScored‘s stats testify – with his Brighton side conceding the fewest goals of all this term. The 24-year-old (yes, another one) can certainly play a bit, too – his assist against Sheffield Wednesday last weekend is a must-see.
