The former Tigers boss is the heavy favourite to take over at Villa Park

Steve Bruce is the firm favourite to be named the new manager of Aston Villa and will be looking to repeat last season’s trick of promotion will Hull City.

Bruce built a strong side in East Yorkshire – one which is currently holding its own in the Premier League – and would no doubt love a reunion with a few of his old Tigers stars at Villa Park, whether realistic or not.

The following three names would certainly improve the Villans:

Allan McGregor

Hull's Allan McGregor

Villa spent heavily on young Italian goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini this summer, but could have perhaps done with a bit of experience between the sticks given the high number of late goals they’ve conceded. Gollini may become a better goalkeeper in the long run, but McGregor has been there, seen it, done it, and if it wasn’t for a long-term injury, could have been a difference maker this season.

Moses Odubajo

Another who’s currently sidelined, Odubajo was one of the Championship’s signings of last season playing in a position in which Villa have struggled this term. Ritchie de Laet’s injury has left the Villans with just Alan Hutton and Leandro Bacuna for cover and Bruce will almost certainly want an upgrade.

Robert Snodgrass

Creativity has been arguably Villa’s downfall this season and Snodgrass has it in abundance. He was directly involved in 10 of Hull’s league goals last term, despite starting just 18 times due to injury. The Villans have plenty of firepower and a wide player in the Snograss mould could provide the spark to ignite it.
