When Celtic approach the summer transfer window, they will find that Brendan Rodgers doesn’t have too many holes to fill in his squad.
Craig Gordon’s new contract means that there’s no problem in goal, whilst defensive signing would only really be required if Kolo Toure and Kieran Tierney leave the club.
Winger Patrick Roberts will need to be replaced when his loan deal from Manchester City comes to an end, whilst the interest in Frenchman Moussa Dembele means that a new striker could be needed.
Despite landing prospect Eboue Kouassi in January though, a quality midfielder could be a priority for Rodgers, with question marks over Nir Bitton’s future, and Tom Rogic still experiencing injury problems.
Landing a playmaking midfielder with real quality on the ball would give Stuart Armstrong the license to get forward and leave Scott Brown to protect the back four, and Manchester City’s Aaron Mooy fits the bill.
The 26-year-old joined City from sister club Melbourne City last summer in a surprise deal, but was sent straight out on loan to Huddersfield Town for the season, where he has been one of the most impressive players in the Championship.
The Australian star – an international team-mate of Rogic – has been an all-round midfielder with great quality on the ball, notching three goals and five assists as Huddersfield challenge for promotion to the Premier League.

Mooy is scheduled to return to the Etihad Stadium this summer, but it’s hard to see him breaking into Pep Guardiola’s star-studded line-up, and another move away – whether loan or permanent – could be on the cards for the midfielder.
Celtic should be making Mooy one of their top summer targets thanks to their strong relationship with City, which has seen them bring in Jason Denayer, John Guidetti, Dedryck Boyata and Patrick Roberts in the last three years.
Mooy’s technical ability would add real quality to Rodgers’ options, and his experience in Scottish football having played for St. Mirren means that he would be a sensible target for the Bhoys ahead of another Champions League qualifying campaign.
