Recent reports have linked Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea with a move to Real Madrid. Could the Red Devils turn to keepers from Leicester City or Tottenham Hotspur?
Manchester United’s David De Gea
A recent report in Spanish media outlet Marca has claimed that Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea will be departing Old Trafford at the end of the season to join Jose Mourinho’s former club, Real Madrid.
The Spanish keeper, who has been sensational for the Red Devils, has racked up over 260 appearances for Manchester United, and is now widely considered to be one of the best goalkeepers in world football.
So if the keeper does depart Old Trafford this summer, who will Jose Mourinho look to bring in to replace him? Are there any stand out candidates in the Premier League, or will Mourinho need to look abroad for a new shot-stopper? HITC Sport has drawn together a list of three possible candidates
1. Hugo Lloris – Tottenham Hotspur

The French goalkeeper has been in outstanding form for Tottenham Hotspur this season, and has stood out as a real leader at the back since taking the Captain’s armband. At 30-years-old, Hugo Lloris has potentially got one more big money move left in him, and the only English club who could likely afford to prise the shot-stopper away from Tottenham Hotspur is Manchester United. After making over 200 appearances for Spurs, will Hugo Lloris be a hard one for Tottenham Hotspur to keep hold of this summer?
2. Kasper Schmeichel – Leicester City
Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel
Could Danish keeper Kasper Schmeichel follow in his father’s footsteps and become Manchester United’s number one? The shot-stopper has been an integral part of Leicester City’s incredible rise to the top, and has done more than enough to merit a move to a big European club. Vocal at the back and an outstanding one-on-one goal-stopper, Kasper Schmeichel perhaps deserves a shot at the Manchester United job.
3. Joe Hart – Manchester City (on loan at Torino)
Torino’s Joe Hart in action
In what could well be one of the most controversial moves of the summer; should Manchester United try and tempt Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart to Old Trafford? After falling quickly out of favour under Pep Guardiola, Joe Hart moved on loan to Torino for the season, and has been impressing in Serie A.
Likely angered by the little faith shown in him at City, could Joe Hart be tempted by a move to their greatest rivals in order to prove himself once and for all to Guardiola? The Red Devils would likely be one of the only Premier League clubs who could afford the keepers wages and satisfy the type of fee Manchester City would likely ask for.
