Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez hasn’t settled with either Rob Elliot or Karl Darlow, and he could well do with looking for a new number one once the transfer window opens.

Newcastle United could be in the market for a goalkeeper in the January transfer window after another error from Karl Darlow.

Benitez has favoured Darlow over Elliot in recent weeks but it hasn’t really improved things and Benitez may be looking for a new shot stopper in January after numerous attempts to strengthen the area last summer, such as Joe Hart according to Sky Sports.

Here are three ‘keepers Benitez should consider in the new year.

Kiko Casilla

Real Madrid understudy keeper Kiko Casilla has been told by Zinedine Zidane that he can leave the club according to the Daily Mirror.

The 31-year-old has plenty of top flight experience in Spain and has been a reliable stopper throughout his career. He made 126 appearances for Espanyol before joining Real Madrid in 2015 where he’s played second fiddle to Keylor Navas.

Casilla is a cheap yet solid option and the fact that he’s Spanish will tick a box for Benitez.

Miguel Angel Moya

Another La Liga option for Newcastle could be Miguel Angel Moya. The 33-year-old has the unenviable task of trying to oust Jan Oblak for a place in the Atletico Madrid starting lineup.

Moya will want to play regular football at this stage of his career and a move to St James’ Park under Benitez could be an attractive proposition for him. He’s had a good career in Spain with Atletico, Getafe and Valencia where he’s played Champions League football and his experience could be valuable to the Geordies.

Scott Carson

Derby County fans have called for their keeper Scott Carson to be called up to the England squad according to the Derby Telegraph. He’s been in fantastic form for the Rams and was Derby’s player of the year last season. No other keeper in the Championship has kept more clean sheets than Carson since 2015.

An ambitious bid from Newcastle could well tempt Carson, particularly if he believes he does have an outside chance of an England call up. A move to the Premier League, where he’s already played with Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion and Charlton, would enhance his chances.
