The former Rangers assistant has a new role at Aston Villa, nearly a month since his acrimonious Ibrox departure.
Former Rangers player and assistant coach David Weir
Nearly a month after leaving Glasgow Rangers, former Ibrox assistant David Weir is back in work.
A Rangers legend in his playing days, Weir’s acrimonious departure will likely have left a sour taste in the 46-year-old’s mouth.
Now part of Aston Villa’s scouting team until the summer, could Weir use his inside knowledge of Rangers’ players to gain his revenge?
Here are three whose names could be passed on:
Barrie McKay
A floppy-haired British winger/attacking midfielder who is barely out of his teens – no not Jack Grealish, it’s Rangers’ Barrie McKay. The Villa man has been left out of Steve Bruce’s staring eleven of late and was linked with a move away in January. Should the 21-year-old depart this summer then McKay could be the ideal replacement. The Scot’s contract expires in 18 months’ time, which should make him a bargain for someone if his situation remains unresolved.

Wes Foderingham
Villa have had problems in goal this season, while Foderingham has been one of Rangers’ most consistent performers. With Sam Johnstone’s loan expiring in the summer and Pierliugi Gollini unlikely to get his place back once he returns from a spell in Italy, Villa could be after a new number one. The Ibrox side have just signed Port Vale’s Jak Alnwick and may not be averse to letting Foderingham leave if they are offered a fair price.
Billy Gilmour
Though not an official first teamer yet, Gilmour has spent a fair bit of time training with the seniors in recent months, despite not turning 16 until June this year. Weir, therefore, should know a fair bit about the Scotland Under-16 international, like the fact he can sign for an English side for around £300,000, for example (Daily Record). Villa have a history of developing young British talents, which should appeal to Gilmour.
