Who should Nottingham Forest target this summer?

Nottingham Forest are one of the Championship sides clearly operating on a shoestring budget due to the debt they are in, so a successful summer of wheeling and dealing is essential.

This means making wise moves for free agents as well as clever loan deals, and it is never too early for the Championship side to get prepared.

Here are three players who will be free agents this summer who will improve Nottingham Forest’s squad if they can manage to get them in the door.

All three feature in HITC’s list of the top 50 free agents this summer

Yoan Gouffran

The Newcastle United forward has been a vital contributor for the league leaders this campaign, but as it stands they are going to let him depart at the end of the season.

Gouffran was linked with a move to Forest in 2015 by the Northern Echo, but elected to stay at Newcastle and fight for his place.

This season he has netted seven goals in the Championship and would be a very worthy addition on a free.

Youssouf Mulumbu

Tough tackling midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu is set to be a free agent when his Norwich City contract expires.

The 30-year-old spent six years at West Brom between 2009 and 2015 and his experience could be a steadying factor in a team reliant on a number of young talented players.

John Ruddy

It’s no secret that Nottingham Forest’s goalkeeping situation is a desperate one which needs addressing.

An outstanding free agent signing would be Norwich City goalkeeper John Ruddy.

Norwich have an option to extend the former England international’s deal but have not yet done so, and Forest would be wise to start enquiring about bringing him to the City Ground.
