Stephen Henderson is out of action, potentially for the rest of the season.

Nottingham Forest may be facing a goalkeeper crisis. Stephen Henderson, who has been the number one stopper of late, suffered an Achilles injury against Norwich City at the weekend. He looks set for a spell on the sidelines. Serbian stopper Vladimir Stojkovic is also injured and he will be assessed this week but there is genuine concern that Forest may be without a goalkeeper in no time at all.

That may mean the club have to delve into the murky and often unappealing waters of the free agent market.

So who could they snap up?

Here are three of the better options available to them…

Gianluca Curci

The former Italian under-21 international has plenty of experience with the likes of AS Roma and was most recently at German side Mainz.

Now a free agent he is clearly keen on playing in England, after trial spells at Cardiff City and Bristol Rovers.

Could Forest be ideal.

Marco Amelia

Another Italian veteran, he left Chelsea in the summer and has been linked with a move to Cypriot side AEK Larnaca recently.

But Forest could surely attempt to bring him in themselves, with the promise of Championship football on offer.

Thorsten Stuckmann

The German stopper has plenty of experience in English football. He has previously featured with the likes of Preston North End and Doncaster Rovers.

He was recently at Scottish side Partick Thistle and could prove a good stop-gap for Forest.
