Rangers have failed in a bid to sign the former England international.
Southampton’s Shane Long in action with Aston Villa’s Joleon Lescott
Rangers boss Mark Warburton was dealt a blow today when Joleon Lescott’s proposed move to Ibrox collapsed.
The BBC report he failed a medical whilst Sky Sports claim he was unsure about a move to Scotland.
Either way, he is not heading to Ibrox.
It now looks like Philippe Senderos is the favourite to sign for Rangers on a free transfer this summer, but are there any better free agent centre-backs to choose from?
Here are three potential options…
Christopher Samba
Christoper Samba 1
The Congo international is a free agent following his release by Dynamo Moscow this summer. The former QPR and Blackburn Rovers defender.
A former team-mate of new Rangers signings Clint Hill, Niko Kranjcar and Joey Barton the powerful 32-year-old would need to take a pay-cut for the move to go through but would be an eye-catching capture.
Sylvain Distin
Bournemouth’s Sylvain Distin in action with Portsmouth’s Marc McNulty
The veteran defender was still playing Premier League football last season, featuring in 17 games for Bournemouth.
Still in good shape for his age the Frenchman would be a shrewd addition from the Scottish club.
Anton Ferdinand

Another who played regularly last season. He featured 24 times for Reading in the Championship and has kept himself in good shape.
Another who might be considered an upgrade on Senderos for Rangers.
