Former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood is one of the favourites to succeed Walter Zenga at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 47-year-old has an extensive list of contacts from his time at both clubs, which could be advantageously when looking to make his first Wolves signings.

Could any of these names follow him to Molineux?

Milos Veljkovic

A favourite of Sherwood while playing for Tottenham’s development squad, Veljkovic was linked with a move to his old boss’s Aston Villa side last summer (Birmingham Mail), however nothing came about. Wolves aren’t exactly desperate for centre-halves, although Kortney Hause may not be around forever and, besides, the Werder Bremen man can also play in defensive midfield.

Massimo Luongo

Luongo is another former Tottenham youngster to be linked with Sherwood in his Aston Villa days, although he later joined QPR instead – despite the 47-year-old personally checking in on him at Swindon (Daily Mail). Wolves signed a heap of midfielders in the summer but Sherwood may want his own men. If so, the Australian could feature highly on his list.

Rudy Gestede

Finally, a player Sherwood did manage to get his hands on at Aston Villa, after the former midfielder paid a reported £6 million for his services. Things didn’t quite work out for Gestede last season, but the Benin international is a proven Championship number 9 – of which Wolves are perhaps lacking. New Villa boss Steve Bruce has started the 28-year-old just once so far and could be prepared to let him go in January. If not, there’s always Emmanuel Adebayor.
