After the Scottish Sun reported that Miller’s Ibrox future is uncertain, here are three veteran goal-getters Rangers should target instead.

Kenny Miller’s Glasgow Rangers future is in doubt, according to the Scottish Sun.

The Scottish giants are said to have put on hold talks over a new deal for the 37-year-old, who becomes a free agent in June, with Aberdeen and Hibernian circling.

But fear not Gers fans, for here are three experienced finishers who could fill Miller’s boots for nothing next term.

Jermaine Beckford (Preston North End)

Beckford may be 33, but having failed to enter the professional game until he was two years into his twenties, there is perhaps life in the old dog yet. The Preston North End striker has scored 160 club career goals in that time (14.5 per season on average) but is unlikely to be kept on at Deepdale beyond the summer. A move to Rangers could be the freshen-up Beckford’s career needs.

Billy Sharp (Sheffield United)

Beckford’s one-time strike partner at Scunthorpe, Sharp is currently in his third spell at boyhood club Sheffield United. The 31-year-old, who has found the net 188 times at club level, is also out of contract this summer, although the Blades do have an option to extend it by a further year. With a return to the Championship firmly in United’s sights, Sharp may prefer to stick around – although a Rangers move should appeal in the unlikely event the Yorkshire side do not wish to keep him.

Darren Bent (Derby County)

With 203 club career goals to his name, Bent is the most prolific of the three strikers listed here. However, he’s only scored five in the league this season and could be let go regardless of which division Derby are in next season – especially with Chris Martin set for a return to Pride Park. Even at 33, the former England international is no slouch and could be a useful addition for the Gers.
