Everton could be in the market for a new manager this summer.
With Sam Allardyce under mounting pressure, Everton may well look to make another managerial change this summer, despite only appointing Allardyce back in November.
‘Big Sam’ came in as Ronald Koeman’s replacement, and after a strong start to life at Goodison Park, results have tailed off, and Everton have won just twice in 2018.
Allardyce doesn’t even have an attractive brand of football to fall back on, nor a desire to develop Everton’s young players, meaning that Farhad Moshiri may make a swift change.
Despite the fact that Allardyce is contracted until 2019, Everton are already being linked with a host of other managers, but they may yet have to battle Arsenal for them.
The Daily Mail recently reported that Shakhtar Donetsk boss Paulo Fonseca remains a top target for Everton, though The Telegraph now believe that Arsenal are considering him as a replacement for Arsene Wenger.
The Mirror report that Arsenal will challenge Everton for Manchester City coach Mikel Arteta after he played for both teams, whilst Sky Bet have Luis Enrique – an Everton target according to the Daily Star – at just 12/1 to be Arsenal boss.
No matter where Everton seem to turn in their potential pursuit of a new manager, Arsenal are allegedly lurking, leaving former Gunners shareholder Moshiri facing a battle with his former club.
Arsenal’s stature and status in Europe – even if it’s only the Europa League – may make them a greater proposition than Everton, meaning Moshiri will have to get his chequebook out, and move quickly, if he is to land any of those Arsenal targets.
