HITC Sport takes a look at three players from the Dutch Eredivisie which Queens Park Rangers could pursue this summer.
Queens Park Rangers manager Ian Holloway
After a fairly miserable season, Queens Park Rangers will likely be looking forward to seeing this campaign come to an end. After a poor start to the season under Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, the Hoops made the big call of changing the manager last year, bringing back former boss Ian Holloway for a second spell in charge.
Slowly but surely, Holloway has gotten Queens Park Rangers going in the right direction though. Changing up the playing style to a 3-4-3, QPR have steadily improved over the last few months, and could well be set for a push up the table towards the play-offs next season.
If they are going to promotion though, Ian Holloway will likely want to strengthen his side this summer. With this in mind, HITC Sport has taken a look at three potential Queens Park Rangers targets from the top flight of Dutch football, who could well make a big difference to this side. But do you agree with our picks? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below!
1. Lasse Schone – Ajax
Lasse Schone celebrates – Ajax
Despite recently signing a new deal with the Dutch giants, might Queens Park Rangers tempt Danish international Lasse Schone to England? The 30-year-old midfielder is excellent from set pieces, and is loved by many Ajax fans for his tireless work ethic. The Championship is a demanding league, and Schone is just the type of player who would thrive there, fitting nicely into the centre of the QPR midfield, able to do all the running that their system requires.
2. Santiago Arias – PSV
Santiago Arias – PSV
The Colombian right-back would fit perfectly into Queens Park Rangers’ system under Holloway, as a player who often likes to get forward for PSV. After joining the Dutch side from Sporting, Santiago Arias has arugably become one of the bests wing-backs in the Eredivisie, and could be tempted by a move to England if Holloway can sell him the project. His pace and power would rock the Championship, but could the Hoops afford him?
3. Stijn Schaars – SC Heerenveen
Stijn Schaars
The 33-year-old Dutch midfielder hasn’t shown his age at all for Heerenveen this season, proving that he is still the heavy-hitting, tough-tackling midfielder that became famous at PSV. The former Netherlands international could be available for cheap considering his age, and would provide that bit of bite which QPR sometimes look to be lacking when playing the 3-4-3. With over 355 career games, he would also add some much needed experience and leadership to what is a fairly young side.
