Gareth Southgate has the extremely tough task of picking England’s Euro 2024 squad.

There has probably never been as much expectation of greatness from an England squad as that of the one heading into the Euro 2024 campaign in Germany.

Gareth Southgate has a plethora of world-class talent at his disposal. The likes of Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka and many more will be looking to propel England to their first-ever Euro title.

The manager has the task of condensing this talent into just 23 members, which means there’s likely going to be some dubious calls. So, with this – here are three England players Southgate will likely take to Euro 2024 – but probably shouldn’t.

Jordan Henderson

The first is probably the most dubious of them all. It’s Jordan Henderson.

The former Liverpool captain has had a seriously weird 23/24 season. Initially moving to the Saudi Pro League, he’s now landed himself a role at struggling Eredivisie side, Ajax.

The 33-year-old has not played well whatsoever, but he is undeniably one of Southgate’s favourites. It will most likely be that Henderson will be flying to Germany in the summer.

Marcus Rashford

Again, another very difficult one. Has Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford done enough to justify a spot in the 23-man squad?

In our opinion? No. Despite last season being his best season ever at Old Trafford, this season the 26-year-old has been a shadow of his former self.

The big question is… have there been better? Yes. Phil Foden definitely, and Anthony Gordon arguably deserves the left-wing slot over Rashford. However, as we know from England’s past tournaments, familiarity usually prevails.

Jack Grealish

To add to the left-winger slot predicament, Jack Grealish is now also a player who could be considered as being dropped from a place on the plane.

As mentioned before, Gordon and Foden have been better than Grealish and Rashford. This one could come down to how they perform heading towards the end of the season.

No matter what, some superstars are set to miss out. Southgate has some huge decisions lying ahead of him.
