The clock is ticking ever closer to Sky Sports News anchorman Jim White shouting to the nation that ‘the January transfer window for 2019 is official shut’.

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith, and his supporting staff will be looking to eek out some last-minute deals in a bid to add depth and quality to their squad.

The Midlands outfit are currently sitting four points outside of the playoff places and are in need of a push as they vie for promotion to the Premier League.

Here we look at three deals that Villa could complete on deadline day:

Newcastle midfielder Isaac Hayden & Watford’s Nathaniel Chalobah: Sky Sports report that Villa have made an approach to sign the duo from their respective clubs.

It is said that Smith’s side are in the market to bring in two midfield players before Thursday’s 11 pm deadline and they have identified Hayden and Chalobah as possible targets.

Defensive-minded Hayden started the Magpies 2-1 win over Manchester City on Tuesday night, with the sky report suggesting that Villa would be an ideal move form him.

For Chalobah, he made his England debut in October but has started only two league matches this season under the stewardship of the highly impressive Javi Gracia.

Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings: The Express & Star claim that Villa could add left-back Tyrone Mings to their squad before the window shuts.

Smith is in need of depth and quality on the left-hand side of the defence, with Neil Taylor the only bonafide player in the position as right-back Alan Hutton has also been deployed in that area.

A potential deal for Mings would perhaps be Villa’s best signing of this winter window because they have desperately been looking for competition at left-back for some time.
