Rangers don’t have a huge amount of funds for January transfers – but that doesn’t mean there’s no business to be done.

Andreas Malin (L) of Liechtenstein vies with Teemu Pukki of Finland during the football friendly match between Finland and Liechtenstein in Turku, Finland, on June 7, 2017.

A striker and a left-winger could be the order of the day for Rangers in January. But who is out of contract soon?

Teemu Pukki

It’s fair to say Teemu Pukki didn’t exactly set the world alight during his one and only season at Celtic in 2013/14. The former Schalke striker netted seven goals in 32 games before returning to Scandinavia with Brondby.

Since then, however, he’s found goals easier to come by. 25 in 36 league games was a hugely impressive tally last season.

And with Alfredo Morelos taking to Rangers like a duck to water after arriving from Scandinavian football, what’s to say Pukki would not have the same impact with a spell in Scotland already under his belt?

Darren Bent

If Rangers are to push on in the next few years, they need to follow Celtic’s lead and strike a fine balance between potential and experience. And with Kenny Miller surely in his final year as a Rangers player, a gap will soon open up for a proven goalscorer to take his place.

And who better than Bent? The former England international may be 33 these days but he remains as sharp as ever. He has averaged almost a goal every other game over the last two seasons and hit double figures for Derby County in 2016/17.

An old-school poacher, he could be the out-and-out goalscorer Rangers need to turn pesky draws into valuable wins.

Scott Arfield

Burnley’s Scotland-born Canada international midfielder Scott Arfield has never been shy about discussing that old family tie with Glasgow Rangers. The former Falkirk star admitted to The Clarets’ official website last year that many of his close friends and family are staunch Rangers supporters – but could he make them proud by making a shock move to Ibrox?

A hard-working and reliable winger who has been with Burnley through promotions and relegations over the last few years, he would be a perfect fit for Rangers’ left wing position.

But with Burnley losing Robbie Brady for an extended period, Arfield may be needed at Turf Moor.
