Leeds United need a left-back, a striker and a dynamic central midfielder in January.

Leeds United may not have a huge amount to spend in the January transfer window. But with these three proven talents set to be free agents in a few months time, they won’t need to break the bank.

Lasse Vibe

If there’s one position Leeds United need to strengthen above all, it’s in attack. Pierre-Michel Lasogga continues to divide opinion and, in truth, The Whites never signed the proven Championship striker they needed to fill the void left by Chris Wood.

And while Brentford forward Lasse Vibe is not the most prolific of goalscorers, he scored 29 goals in the last two seasons combined – a more than respectable record in the second tier.

Vibe, an intelligent striker who can also play in a deeper role and combines well with his attacking partners, has only started eight Championship games all season for Brentford and may need a fresh start.

Davide Santon

Ok, while David Santon never quite became the ‘new Maldini’ some had professed him to be, the Italian remains respected in English football on the back of a decent spell in English football with Newcastle United.

A two-footed full-back who adds skill and creativity in attack, he would certainly be a more natural option in Thomas Christiansen’s back four than Vurnon Anita, Stuart Dallas, Gjanni Alioski and co – all of whom who have been trialled at left-back with limited effect.

Santon is out of contract in the summer and a return to England may appeal – though swapping Serie A leaders Inter Milan for a move to the Championship represents a rather substantial step down.

James McArthur

Despite playing in the Premier League since all the way back in 2010, Crystal Palace’s James McArthur remains one of the more underrated performers in the top flight.

A tenacious midfielder whose eye for goal has grown keener as the years have gone on, the Scotland international looks set to leave Palace after falling down the pecking order and will have no shortage of options.

And with Leeds seemingly in the market for a dynamic central midfielder, a la Joshs Vela and Brownhill, McArthur would undoubtedly fit the bill.
