After sacking boss Owen Coyle, Blackburn Rovers are once again looking for a new manager.
Blackburn Rovers manager Owen Coyle
It’s been another poor season for Blackburn Rovers, with the club sitting 23rd in the Championship table, in desperate danger of being relegated to League One. Having fallen what feels like year after year, fans of the former Premier League winning club are understandably angry and frustrated.
And now, with Owen Coyle leaving the club by mutual consent, Blackburn Rovers are in the hunt for a new manager. But who can they go for? Rovers will without doubt need to bring in someone with experience of a relegation fight, and a proven record in the Championship, but can they attract such a candidate? Here’s a look at three possible contenders to takeover the reigns at Ewood Park…
1. Gary Rowett
Former Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett
The standout candidate, Gary Rowett would be the ideal man to turn Blackburn Rovers around this season. When he left Burton Albion for Birmingham City back in 2014, Birmingham were in a similar position to Blackburn Rovers now, lingering towards relegation. However, Rowett managed to work a miracle on a shoestring budget, organising his side well. After guiding Birmingham City to within goal difference of the play-offs, Rowett was inexplicably sacked and replaced by Gianfranco Zola. Now without a club, could Blackburn Rovers convince Rowett to take the job?
2. Uwe Rosler
Fleetwood Town manager Uwe Rosler
The former Wigan Athletic and Leeds United coach has done a remarkable job with Fleetwood Town this season, guiding The Trawlermen into the play-off places. With experience of relegation battles with the two former club’s mentioned, as well as a proven ability in League One with Brentford and now with Fleetwood Town, Uwe Rosler might be an excellent choice for the new Blackburn Rovers manager, whether the club are relegated or not.
3. Mark Warburton
Former Rangers manager Mark Warburton
Having now left Glasgow giants Rangers, Mark Warburton is now looking for work, and could well be convinced to cross back over the border to take over the reigns at Ewood Park. Not only does Warburton have a proven track record at over-achieveing with smaller clubs, doing a miraculous job with Brentford both in League One and in the Championship, Warburton has also proved while at Rangers that he can handle the expectations of a big club; of which Blackburn Rovers still are. However, could this high profile target be a little out of Rovers reach?
