Leeds United could splash the cash this summer but will they want to go big for Kemar Roofe or look elsewhere for cheaper options?

According to a recent report from the Yorkshire Evening Post Leeds United are interested in signing Oxford United forward Kemar Roofe this summer, and now the League One club’s chairman has confirmed how much it would take to tempt his hand.
Speaking to the Oxford Mail, Darryl Eales said he considers £3million the minimum number so here we take a look at three alternatives for Leeds who are likely to cost less than it would ultimately take to bring Roofe to Elland Road if that is a starting figure.

Sam Winnall
An alternative League One striker with a fine record in front of goal, Barnsley’s Sam Winnall will not cost anywhere close to the amount being mooted for Roofe.
The 25-year-old found the net 21 times in 43 league matches last season, providing seven assists to boot, and he ended the campaign with 24 goals and eight assists in all competitions.
With his contract expiring in the summer of 2017, this is also the last year Barnsley could negotiate his departure on their own terms, albeit for a lesser fee.

Nahki Wells
If Leeds want a ready-made Championship striker they should look no further than Huddersfield Town’s Nakhi Wells.
The 26-year-old netted 17 times in the second tier last season and a decent bid from Leeds this summer could tempt their rival’s into doing business.

Ashley Fletcher
A player who will cost nowhere near the fee being asked for Roofe is Manchester United youngster Ashley Fletcher.
United regularly sell their young players for knock-down prices and with Marcus Rashford bursting on to the scene last season it seems his teammate will have to move on for regular first-team football.
He is relatively unproven but if Leeds are successful in signing Marcus Antonsson he would act predominantly as third choice anyway, provided Chris Wood strikes up an effective partnership with the Swede.
