Tottenham Hotspur take on Sunderland on Sunday, with the defeat to Monaco still ringing in their ears.

With Tottenham’s match against Monaco failing to produce the result so desperately wished for by the club and their fan base, Mauricio Pochettino could look into making three changes for the match against Sunderland at the weekend.

Though the Argentine will be torn between wanting to rotate his squad ahead of a game that should be very much winnable, he will surely be conscious that the same could have been said about the fixture with Monaco.

Kieran Trippier

With the opportunity to rotate fullbacks being a luxury Pochettino will not be able to utilise so often this season, the Spurs boss should take the chance to rest Kyle Walker and give Kieran Trippier a first appearance of the season.

With Danny Rose’s absence against Monaco leaving the left side of the defence vulnerable, as Ben Davies put in a disappointing performance, Pochettino will not want Walker to be overworked this season, and the North Londoners would be wise to rest the England international.

Moussa Sissoko

Tottenham’s joint record signing is yet to start a game after his big money move from Newcastle, however, Pochettino should look to the France international to come in against the Black Cats, operating in one of a number of attacking midfield positions.

Erik Lamela, who had a mixed evening against Monaco, could be rested to give Sissoko his first appearance at White Hart Lane, and he could be unleashed on old enemies in Sunderland.

Mousa Dembele

The Belgian made his long-awaited comeback from suspension against Monaco, coming on for the start of the second half. Dembele looked good, but a little short of match sharpness against the Ligue 1 outfit, and Pochettino should consider giving him 70 minutes against David Moyes’ side to help edge closer to the level the midfielder will want to be at.

Dembele and Sissoko, alongside either Eric Dier or Victor Wanyama would form part of a terrifying midfield for any opponent, not least the struggling Wearside outfit.
