Leeds United are faced with having to consider signing a new centre-back with Swansea City unwilling to sell Kyle Bartley.

Swansea boss Paul Clement told Wales Online that he wants to work with Bartley next season, after his superb loan spell at Leeds.

The Sun has linked The Whites with a move for Vitoria Setubal defender Frederico Venancio, but there are some good options closer to home too.

Three defenders who played in the Championship last season are strong options, even if two of them are heading for different divisions.

Here are three players Leeds should consider…

Grant Hanley

Scotland defender Grant Hanley should become a priority for Leeds after the Bartley blow.

Newcastle paid £6 million to sign the centre-back from Blackburn last season, only for the move to turn into a nightmare for him, with Rafa Benitez keeping him on the sidelines.

A move away from Newcastle is imminent with a switch to a Championship club likely.

Hanley, 26, has leadership qualities and could be a natural replacement for Bartley, and Newcastle would have to accept a loss on the fee paid for him last summer after an underwhelming campaign.

Aden Flint

Leeds raided Bristol City to sign Luke Ayling last summer and it turned out to be one of their best summer signings.

Whether the Robins will be so generous this summer is another matter, but Leeds should put them to the test with an offer for centre-back Aden Flint.

Leeds could offer Flint the chance to play for a promotion chasing team. This may not be enough with Premier League sides circling.

Flint, 27, would be a terrific signing though for Leeds and would be worth pushing the boat out for and spending big.

Blackburn Rovers captain Jason Lowe is facing up to life in League One after the club’s dramatic final day relegation.

The 25-year-old has been a consistent performer for Rovers and is a former England youth international.

He has more than 120 Championship appearances to his name already and has played in the Premier League, and could be tempted by the chance to link up with Leeds.
