Celtic have endured a tricky season so far, and that may just tempt Neil Lennon into the transfer market in January to ensure a tenth league title in a row is still possible.

Still, the Bhoys could take a longer-term look and seek some pre-contract agreements in January, with the added bonus of possibly negotiating immediate deals.

With that in mind, here are three Lennon targets Celtic could sign for nothing or next to nothing in 2021…

Ben Davies

The Preston defender has yet to sign a new deal at Deepdale, and The Sun reported in September that he is likely to sign a pre-contract agreement with Celtic. Quick and a fine passer of the ball, Davies would fit the bill perfectly as a left-footed centre back in a back three, and as one of the top defenders in the Championship, he would be a bargain for absolutely nothing.

Alfie Doughty

Celtic pursued Doughty over the summer, but Charlton stood firm and refused to sell. The Glasgow Times suggested last month that Celtic want a pre-contract agreement, with Doughty yet to sign new terms. The 20-year-old is quick and versatile down the left flank, though Celtic would have to pay minimal compensation to lure him to Parkhead. With Diego Laxalt only on loan, Doughty makes sense as a long-term option on the left.

Bright Osayi-Samuel

A more advanced option would Osayi-Samuel, who QPR have been unable to tie down to new times. The 22-year-old is quick and incredibly skilful, potentially bringing a spark to the Celtic attack – especially with Mohamed Elyounoussi only on loan. Celtic’s head of recruitment and ex-QPR man Gary Penrice is allegedly driving Celtic’s interest, and given that he is valued at around £5million, a free transfer could be ideal for the Bhoys.
