Brendan Rodgers has suggested that he will look to clear out some of Celtic’s fringe players next season.

Brendan Rodgers latest suggestion to the Glasgow Evening Times that some of his fringe players leave Celtic, could be bad news for some members of his squad.

Although Rodgers is not looking to make major changes to his side, he does want to make some alterations.

To make room for new additions, Rodgers is likely to have to offload some of the back-up players he currently has.

“Listen, some will move on naturally,” he said. “Their cycle will finish here because they might not get the game-time they want. Some might want to go on and try something else. That’s natural.”

In this article, we take a look at the three Celtic players who could be most at risk, after Rodgers’ latest comments.

Callum McGregor

Rodgers may be a fan of McGregor, but the midfielder is reaching an age where he needs regular first-team football.

McGregor is now 23, and can no longer be considered an emerging prospect. He is at a stage where he should be a first-team star.

The Scottish midfielder has featured fairly regularly for Celtic, but he has struggled for starts.

McGregor started just once for Celtic in the Champions League, and he only has been named in the Bhoys’ line-up at kick off 15 times in the league.

Kolo Toure

Toure is undoubtedly a great influence on Celtic’s dressing room, but he has been overlooked on the most part this campaign.

The Ivorian has made just 15 appearances for Celtic in all competitions, and could well be moved on.

Cristian Gamboa

Gamboa has actually had a good first season at Celtic when utilised, but he is definitely Rodgers’ second choice right-back.

Mikael Lustig looks to be ahead of him in the pecking order at Parkhead, and it remains to be seen whether Gamboa will be satisfied to play a covering role again next term.
