The Scottish champions were completely outclassed in Munich, but a few players came away with some credit.
Celtic were outgunned by another Champions League heavyweight last night as they lost 3-0 to Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.
The result marked Celtic’s second comprehensive defeat of the campaign after they were thrashed 5-0 by Paris Saint-Germain.
However, there were three Bhoys players who held their own against their illustrious opponents.
Craig Gordon
The Scotland goalkeeper cannot be faulted for any of Bayern’s three goals. He saved at full stretch from Robert Lewandowski for the opener, only for his defence to gift Thomas Muller an easy rebound.
He also produced excellent stops from Arjen Robben and Arturo Vidal late on to keep the score down.
Kieran Tierney
The 20-year-old full-back embraced the unenviable task of handling Robben and Joshua Kimmich down the Bayern right with a courage that was missing from much more senior teammates.
He also hit the crossbar with a 30-yard shot, which would have been a memorable consolation.
Patrick Roberts
The Manchester City loanee was always brave on the ball and carried Celtic upfield whenever possible to relieve pressure.
On those rare ventures forward, he showed glimpses of his dribbling ability without having the final product on display at the other end.
