Rowett remains in contention to join the Rams after Nigel Pearson’s departure.

According to the Mirror, Birmingham City boss Gary Rowett remains a candidate for the vacant Derby County job – despite Chris Powell being seemingly nailed on.

Rowett has performer minor miracles at St. Andrew’s, enhancing his reputation as one of England’s top young bosses, and last month admitted a return to his former club could happen.

If it does, then the following trio of Blues stars should go with him:

Tomasz Kuszczak

Other than up front, between the sticks is arguably Derby’s biggest Achilles heel. Scott Carson may have taken Lee Grant’s place at the start of last season but he is merely the lesser of two evils it seems. Though 34, Kuszczak has established himself as one of the best in the Championship since arriving at Blues in 2015 and could be acquired cheaply with his contract expiring at the end of the campaign.

Jacques Maghoma

Derby are desperate for a bit of creativity and Maghoma would certainly provide it, having engineered more big chances (three) than any of the Rams players this season – yielding two assists. The Congo international has thrived under his former Burton Albion manager, after a difficult two-year spell at Sheffield Wednesday, and would almost certainly wish to follow him if he moves on.

Clayton Donaldson

With Chris Martin gone, Derby are perhaps lacking a bit of physicality up front. Signing 6′ 1″ Donaldson would soon see to that. The Jamaican may be 32, but has scored twice as many goals (four) as £8 million Rams striker Matej Vydra this season. Interestingly, Donaldson is the Championship’s third-most fouled player so far, with defenders drawn to him, and could be the perfect foil for the Czech international.
