The West Bromwich Albion manager’s position might soon be under threat.
The Telegraph has cast doubt on Alan Pardew’s future as West Bromwich Albion boss after the sackings of Baggies chairman John Williams and chief executive Martin Goodman on Tuesday.
Though the report states Pardew’s job is ‘safe’ for the time bring, it adds that the 56-year-old’s methods and management are ‘understood to be causing some friction within the squad’.
Many players, too, are said to be unhappy at having to travel to Barcelona for a training camp this week.
Pardew certainly could not complain should Albion wield the axe in the coming weeks, following a run of just one win in 13 Premier League matches since his appointment.
But who could replace him at the division’s bottom side?
Here are three out of work options West Brom could target…
Slaven Bilic
Known for his battling qualities as a player, the former West Ham United manager could spark the sort of reaction Pardew has so far failed to in his time at West Brom. On the plus side, he has more than two years (management) experience in England’s top flight, but left West Ham in danger of relegation at the time of his sacking last October.
Mark Hughes
The Welshman replaced Tony Pulis – recently of West Brom, of course – and took them higher than they ever managed under his compatriot. That may have been enough to set the Baggies’ pulses racing, had Hughes not been sacked by the Potters last month after they too became embroiled in a relegation battle.
Marco Silva
The Sun reported that Everton were ready to pay £12 million for the former Watford manager before they appointed Sam Allardyce. Less than two months later, however, and Silva was sacked, a decision the Hornets blamed on Everton’s interest. The Portuguese almost kept Hull City up from a similar position last season, but is an obvious flight risk.
