With the January transfer window now open, HITC Sport looks at three key areas in which Garry Monk may be looking for reinforcements.
As they hurtle faster and faster towards the top of the Championship, there is no denying that Leeds United are having a fantastic first season under new boss, Garry Monk. After buying well over the summer, Monk’s men are well on their way to securing a promotion place this season, but many Leeds fans believe that the club may need to strengthen in January to secure a place.
With that in mind, we take a look at three key areas where Leeds United might be looking to recruit, to either add something different to their team, or to reinforce an already solid base.

A New Full-Back
With the ever-ongoing speculation around Leeds United starlet, Charlie Taylor, Monk may well be keeping an eye out for potential defensive reinforcements in this window. Despite stating recently that he would not be allowing Taylor to leave the club, Leeds are likely to have their eyes on a few targets, just in case an unresistible offer were to come in. With a host of Premier League clubs looking to send their youngsters out on loan in January, Leeds would do well to turn to defenders such as Liverpool’s Joe Gomez, who has just returned after a year long injury.

An Attacking Midfielder
Despite not suffering with goal scoring of late, Leeds United may well also be looking into bringing in a midfielder who poses a bit more a goal threat. Though impressive, Leeds United’s midfield does currently lack a really frightening goalscorer, and so they club may well turn to Nottingham Forest’s Henri Lansbury. Despite strong interest from Derby County and Aston Villa, Lansbury may well be doable for Monk, as he looks to be available on a cut price, due to his contract with the Reds expiring in the summer.

Another Striker
Since his arrival at Elland Road, Garry Monk has overseen a number of transformations within his squad. One of which, is striker Chris Wood, who despite not overly impressing Leeds fans in the past, has come on leaps and bounds. Strong, good in the air and lethal from close range, Wood looks to be really hitting his potential under Monk. However, should the big centre-forward get injured, who will step in and score the goals? This predicament may well lead Monk to turning to Middlesbrough forward, Jordan Rhodes, who has started just two Premier League games this season. A proven goalscorer at this level, Rhodes would add that extra firepower Monk’s side needs to propel them up into a potential automatic promotion place.
