Speaking on The Overlap, Jamie Carragher has been discussing what Tottenham need to do in order to challenge for major honours and Hugo Lloris.

The France captain has been Spurs’ number one for over a decade now, but according to Carragher, the goalkeeper just isn’t good enough to get Spurs challenging for major honours.

Indeed, the pundit says that the north London club need to sign an upgrade on Lloris if they’re going to be top contenders, pointing towards Manchester City and Liverpool’s acquisitions of Ederson and Alisson as examples.

Lloris needs replacing

Carragher spoke about the need to replace Lloris.

“I’ve thought this for years. I know he’s a World Cup winner, but the goalkeeper is not good enough. In terms of getting Tottenham to really challenging he’s not good enough. I don’t have a name for you, but if you look at City when they brought Ederson in and Liverpool with Alisson. He makes too many mistakes and I think Antonio Conte needs a top centre-back and a top goalkeeper,” Carragher said.

In the pipeline

Carragher believes that Spurs need to upgrade on Lloris, and it seems as though that view is shared by some within the club at the moment.

Indeed, Spurs have recently been linked with a move for Jan Oblak – a goalkeeper who has proven he can win things over the years, while Jordan Pickford and Illan Meslier have also been linked as potential Lloris replacements.

Carragher is right to be concerned about Lloris – he’s made high-profile errors against both Newcastle and Arsenal as of late, but it seems as though Spurs are on the case when it comes to getting a replacement through the door.

Don’t be surprised if a big-name goalkeeper arrives at Tottenham this summer.
