Speaking to Off The Ball, Mark Lawrenson has been discussing Leeds United and Patrick Bamford’s remarkable rise under Marcelo Bielsa.
Bamford hasn’t played much football this season due to a string of injuries, and Lawrenson has noted just how much the Whites have missed their number nine.
However, Lawrenson says he was somewhat shocked to see that Bamford has been such a revelation for Leeds in the Premier League, stating that once upon a time he never thought he’d make it at the top level.
What’s Lawrenson said about Bamford?
The pundit had nothing but good things to say about the striker.
“If you remember, Bamford played all of these loan games at seven or eight clubs and I just thought he’d never make it in the Premier League, but he’s been brilliant, and now, you’d say, maybe even more than Phillips, he’s the man they’re missing because they don’t score enough goals,” Lawrenson said.

Proven everyone wrong
There won’t have been many who could have predicted Bamford’s meteoric rise after Leeds’ promotion in 2020.
The striker wasn’t even one of the best in the Championship, while his Premier League record before Leeds’ promotion was, quite simply, abysmal.
However, he’s perfectly suited to Marcelo Bielsa’s system and he’s been shining for 18 months at this point.
Leeds certainly miss Bamford, and perhaps once he’s back results will start going in their favour once again.
