Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg opened the scoring for Tottenham Hotpsur versus Fulham in North London this afternoon.
Spurs laboured to another Premier League victory, edging out Marco Silva’s side 2-1.
It was an excellent finish from the Denmark international that laid the foundations for the win, firing across Bernd Leno from inside the penalty area.
And Glenn Murray, speaking on BBC Sport, has admitted that he was surprised by the quality of the finish, likening it to something Harry Kane would do.
He said: “Spurs can smell blood and the way Hojbjerg finished it I thought he was Kane, it was a striker-esque goal.”
Hojbjerg, a £15 million signing under Jose Mourinho, has a lot to offer in an attacking sense, it turns out.
He has predominantly been used as a defensive midifelder for much of his two-year spell at Tottenham but, with Rodrigo Bentancur in North London since January, that seems to have given him more license to roam forward.
The former Southampton midfiedler is essentially a box-to-box figure now and it’s clearly added an extra dimension to the Lilywhites’ attack.
Because with Son Heung-min still not at the races, and Harry Kane – who scored the other goal – being just one man, Antonio Conte’s side still need more goals from midfield and Hojbjerg, as Murray pointed out, is capable of scoring them.
