Tottenham Hotspur fans have reacted on Twitter to rumours that Erik Lamela could leave the club this summer.
After a number of seasons of decline, it seems as though Spurs could be set for a clearout, with their new management and board members now in charge.
The Athletic report that Lamela wants to leave Tottenham this summer and he has expressed a desire to play his football elsewhere.
Added with that, it was also suggested last month that Tottenham could sell the versatile attacker, amid these fresh claims.
Either way, this is music to the ears of Tottenham fans who think it’s the right time for the left-footed technician to leave.
Spurs secured Lamela’s talents in 2013 when they paid £26 million for his services (BBC Sport) – and, at the time, he was seen as Gareth Bale’s replacement.
But over the years, whilst Lamela showcased a crazy bit of quality now and again, like scoring a Rabona, all-in-all, he hasn’t been able to show the consistency needed in the Premier League.
Even when a half-cooked Bale returned to Spurs last season, Lamela couldn’t even get ahead of the Welshman, so that shows where he is at.
It’s pretty clear, with Spurs going backwards during these past few years that a clearout is needed.
And the decks have been cleared in the management department and it seems as though the same might happen with this current squad of players this summer.
