Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after noticing Emiliano Martinez trying to put Mohamed Salah off during today’s 1-0 win.

What’s the story?

Well, Jürgen Klopp got the better of Steven Gerrard in the Premier League clash at Anfield earlier, as the Reds beat Aston Villa thanks to Salah.

However, the Egyptian didn’t have it easy, as Martinez was trying to distract him before he ran up to take his ultimately decisive penalty.

Supporters noticed the £17m Aston Villa man pointing to his right, telling Salah to put the ball there in an attempt to get inside his head.

However, the Liverpool No.11 refused to listen to the Argentine, and hammered his penalty to Martinez’s left.

In fairness to the Villans shot-stopper, he also went that way, and nearly saved the spot-kick.

Salah did well to score, as Martinez is an excellent penalty saver and has been known to get inside people’s heads.

Earlier this season, he distracted Bruno Fernandes in the dying stages before the Portugal international surprisingly fired his penalty over the bar.

Liverpool showed title credentials against Aston Villa

Gerrard certainly knows how to set up a side, as his Aston Villa team caused Liverpool much frustration at Anfield earlier.

On another day, the Villans nick a point in a game like that, and Liverpool’s title hopes take a big dent.

However, Klopp’s side mean business this season, and proved their title credentials by winning even when things weren’t exactly going their way.

In our view, the Reds are going to win the Premier League.

Having said that, a lot will depend on how Klopp navigates the side through that period where Sadio Mane, Naby Keita and Salah are at the Africa Cup of Nations.

For now, let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter have been saying about what Martinez did…
