Steven Gerrard, your time at Aston Villa is up. The former Rangers boss might be a Liverpool legend, and that did play a part in him replacing Dean Smith last November, but it’s time to receive your P45.
Following Villa’s quite abject 3-0 defeat to newly-promoted Fulham on Thursday night, the team are just hovering above the relegation zone on goals scored and nothing else.
Former Villa striker Stan Collymore shared on Twitter that fans in the away end at Craven Cottage were texting him that they are ‘exasperated’ by what they were seeing.
Whilst Villa legend Alan McIanlly made his feelings clear on Gerrard by stating on Twitter, during match, that he will be ‘given another 35 minutes’, after being asked how long the former midfielder has in the job.
There can’t be any excuses, it’s not just tonight’s result and performance, but the majority of his reign has been beyond abject, morale-sapping, slow, clueless, lack of connection between fans and manager, inability to change tactics that aren’t working, an arrogance that Gerrard is better than he is and a job he shouldn’t have had in the first place.

Lack of press, too narrow, individual players declining, lack of goals and conceding for fun. This has been a reign to forget for Gerrard.
There’s no way Gerrard survives this defeat, and if he is still in the dugout on Sunday against Brentford, then the atmosphere inside Villa Park is going to be far from pretty.
The fans will never turn against the Villa owners – Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens – for what they have done at the club, but the likes of chairman, Christian Purslow and Sporting Director, Johan Lange, will also come under fire alongside the manager now.
