Michael Owen has claimed that ‘questioned remained’ of Thiago at Liverpool up until a few weeks ago.
The former striker added that the 31-year-old is now a ‘joy to watch’ and has been ‘absolutely brilliant’ for Liverpool recently.
Owen’s comments are probably not going to go down well with Liverpool supporters, but Thiago has been doing bits for much longer than he thinks.
He is right up there as a possible contender for Liverpool’s Player of the Year, and if he works his magic even more as the Reds chase four trophies, then he might just elevate his status further.
Nonetheless, this is the controversial claim Owen made of Thiago and the supposed questions about him up until a few weeks ago, as he told Premier League Productions (24/04/22 at 4:25 pm).
“He was a bit of a slow starter,” said Owen. “Lots of people questioned whether his style of football could fit into this Liverpool team.
“Those questions remained really up until a few weeks ago. During the last few games he has played, he has been absolutely brilliant. Knitting everything together.
“He is a joy to watch because when you play the game, he is different. He’s got that guile. His disguise in passing is second to none. You can literally go to the stadium, watch him and enjoy watching him alone.”
It’s remarkable that Jurgen Klopp has put Liverpool in such a situation that they are searching for all four trophies.
Even if it doesn’t happen, to be heading into May still with a chance of winning it all is pretty incredible.
The League Cup, of course, is already in the bag, and in truth, if the Reds don’t add one more, then many on Merseyside will be left disappointed.
But the quadruple-chasing side have far too many proven winners in their ranks to not add multiple trophies to their cabinet before the season is out.
