Former Rangers striker Steven Thompson has admitted his surprise in The Herald that Celtic duo Patrick Roberts and Charly Musonda have not played as many games as they should have.

The former Rangers and Scotland international striker, who was on the books of the Ibrox club from 2003 until 2006, has suggested that 21-year-old winger Roberts and Musonda would have added more hunger and creativity into the Celtic team.

Thompson wrote in The Herald: “I am a little surprised that the likes of Patrick Roberts and Charly Musonda haven’t been given more game-time in a bid to freshen things up and to inject a bit of hunger and creativity into the Celtic team, qualities which have been missing on more than a few occasions this term.

“I think that the fans would like to see more of them, as well as the likes of James Forrest have done carrying that burden over the course of the season.”

Charly Musonda of Celtic is seen during the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Heart of Midlothian at Celtic Park on January 30, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Underused?

Roberts retuned to Celtic on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City in the summer of 2017.

The former England Under-20 international has had injury issues this season and made just seven appearances in the Scottish Premiership so far this campaign, according to Transfermarkt.com.

Perhaps the 21-year-old winger will play regularly for Celtic in the final weeks of the season.

Musonda, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, moved to the Hoops on loan from Chelsea in the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old Belgian has made only three appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Celtic, providing one assist in the process, accoridng to Transfermarkt.com.
